Teachers Grants

The Sheppard Spouses' Club is excited to announce the launch of our new Teacher Grant program!

What is a Teacher Grant?

Great teachers are always looking for new ways to expand their instruction and engage their students. Innovative teaching is important--but it can be expensive. The SSC will award ten $500 grants to teachers who are teaching at any K-12th grade school within a 60 mile radius of Sheppard AFB, TX. Selection of awardees will be made by the SSC Board members no later than October 20, 2019.

The aim of this project is to aid you in your continued efforts to assist with the unique educational needs of our military children. Your efforts to date are greatly appreciated and their impact far-reaching. Together we hope to take another step toward educational excellence.

Teaching grants can fund classroom enrichment, school supplies, field trips and almost anything else that goes into bettering the quality of education.  Please be sure to include how the program will specifically impact the educational experience of the military children in your school or classroom.

Categories of SSC Teacher Education Grants:

Classroom Supplies

These grants are specifically for classroom supplies. Teachers in high-need schools fund classroom projects that aim to foster creativity and critical thinking in students. Grants are awarded based on financial need, a description of how the project meets the students’ needs and the number of students who will be involved. School teachers essentially submit proposed classroom projects. In these proposals, you will include very specific items that you need, ranging from standard school supplies to microscopes, laboratory equipment and computer software.

Field Trips

The SSC seeks to expand the parameters of the classroom by providing opportunities for you to fund educational excursions for your classes. Grants enable teachers to send their classroom on a field trip. Funds may be used for transportation, registration for events, admission prices and other field trip expenditures.

STEAM Grants

The SSC is dedicated to the importance of STEAM education and awards grants to K-12 teachers who want to incorporate new ways of teaching science, technology, education, art, and mathematics into their classroom. Funds can be used to purchase laboratory equipment, math and science software, robotics supplies, and other items that will add depth and dimension to your lessons.

Selection for Teacher Grants

To qualify for the funds, a teacher will need to complete and submit the attached application. As part of the application process, the teacher will need to identify a project or program they are willing to undertake or implement and explain how it will benefit their students (specifically military dependents). For example, projects or programs can be permanent such as the re-design of an area set aside for the mentoring/counseling/tutoring of children of deployed military members. Projects or programs can also be a one-time special event focusing  on the military child.  Obviously, our intent is to reach as many military children as possible, but we also want to benefit all students. Deadline for submission is 15 October 2019.  If you have further questions, please email ssc.helpinghands@gmail.com
