SSC Scholarships

Scholarship Applications for 2026 are OPEN through Saturday, February 28, 2026!

Thank you for your interest in the SCC Scholarship.  
Below is guidance for the 2026 Scholarship season.
 

Important requirements to complete the electronic application:

· Must meet the eligibility requirements. 

· Complete the Scholarship Application Form (see below). 

· Complete a 600-word essay and paste to the application. (see topics below) 

· Upload a copy of your most recent transcript – if required.

· Upload up to TWO (2) "character" recommendation letters from non-family related persons (ex. teacher, professor, advisor, counselor, principal, employer) – if required.

 
 

Essay Topics

Military Spouses:

 

  • Why is pursuing your education important to you, and how do you believe it will enable you to better support your family and community? What legacy do you hope to build through your educational journey and future accomplishments?
  • How have you worked to pursue your educational goals while navigating the challenges of PCS moves, career interruptions, and the responsibilities of supporting your military spouse? Describe the strategies, resilience, and personal growth that have helped you stay committed to your academic journey.
  • Describe a moment in your life when you realized your own resilience. What challenges did you face, how did you overcome them, and what did you learn about yourself through that experience? Explain how this insight has shaped your personal, academic, or professional goals. 


High School Students:

 

  • Who is a significant role model in your life, and how have they influenced your personal development, values, and educational or career goals? Describe specific ways their example has shaped your path and motivated you to pursue your aspirations.
  • How has your experience growing up in a military family shaped your identity, values, and future goals? In your response, discuss specific challenges or opportunities you encountered as a military child and explain how these experiences have prepared you to contribute meaningfully to your community and pursue your educational aspirations.
  • What significant challenges have you or a loved one faced, and how have these experiences motivated you to pursue your education? In your response, explain how overcoming or witnessing these challenges has shaped your determination, goals, and commitment to your academic journey.


College-Age Students:

 

  • How has your experience with military life shaped your academic interest or career goals? Discuss specific aspects of military life that have influenced your path and explain how they have guided your educational and professional aspirations.
  • What have you learned about yourself through your continuing education, and how are these insights guiding your next steps academically, personally, or professionally? Reflect on specific experiences that have shaped your self-understanding and explain how they influence your future goals.
  • How have your personal passions influenced your decision to pursue your chosen field of study? Discuss the interests, experiences, or values that guided your academic direction and explain how they continue to shape your future goals.


Essay Reminders: Essays will be copied and pasted in Section 5 of the application. You will respond to one of the provided prompts in an essay no longer than 600 words. Your essay will be evaluated on clarity, organization of ideas, originality, creativity of content, and usage of the standard English language. No formatting rules apply to this essay.

SSC SCHOLARSHIPS

The SSC is committed to helping our military spouses and children further their educational endeavors through our annual scholarship program. Through fundraising at Hangar Holiday and the Sheppard Thrift Shop, we are able to award multiple scholarships to military spouses and dependent children.
